The report notes that the income received by the richest 10 percent of the richest population represents 37 percent of incomes in Algeria and 65 percent of incomes in South Africa, while the income of the “poorest” 40 percent does not exceed 14 percent of total income in Algeria and about 4 percent of income in South Africa.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The report highlights Equatorial Africa is the region with the most “inequality” on the continent, while North African and East African countries suffer the least from inequality.<\/p>\n

At the Arab level, Algeria ranks seventh, preceded by the United Arab Emirates (35th in the world), Saudi Arabia (36), Qatar (41st), Bahrain (45), Oman (47) and Kuwait (57th).<\/p>\n

Globally, Algeria is ranked in the HDI category “High” at 82nd out of 189 countries rated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with an index of 759.0, thus advancing three (3) places compared to the 2018 ranking (85th).<\/p>\n\n

Norway and Switzerland ranked first and second in the world rankings.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Burundi, South Sudan, Chad, the Central African Republic and Niger are at the bottom of the list and rank 185th, 186th, 187th, 188th and 189th, respectively.<\/p>\n

The UNDP report categorizes four categories of countries in its ranking, including countries with low human development (HDI less than 55.0), countries with medium human development (HDI between 55.0 and 699.0), countries with high human development (HDI between 7.0 and 799.0) and countries with very high human development (HDI greater than 8.0).<\/p>\n
