La Makanerie is a brand of scarves and stoles inspired by the stories of Mediterranean women. A fashion project that celebrates transmission and cultural heritage, its second collection is entitled “Oran, la boutique”. On the program: silk squares in the colors of Algeria, made ethically and with respect for the environment.
La Makanerie, a women’s story
Much more than a brand of scarves and stoles, La Makanerie is a tribute to free, authentic and daring Mediterranean women. Whether they hail from Marseille, Beirut or Oran, they all embody the values of transmission and cross-fertilization so dear to designers Rachel and Théa. With this multi-cultural project, the two sisters revisit the scarf, a symbol of both tradition and emancipation. Like a link between intimacy and the outside world, this accessory – worn like a piece of jewelry – is infinitely versatile.
Focus on the “Oran, la boutique” collection
On the brand’s e-shop site, the second collection takes us to Algeria. A country dear to the founders, since it’s the home of their grandmother, an embroiderer and seamstress. A way of celebrating their dual French-Algerian culture, as well as the joyous atmosphere of the city of Oran: sunbathing, partying, big meals, raï and the sound of the waves. Echoing this gentle atmosphere, the scarves are tinted blue, yellow and deep red – with prints ranging from a touch of leopard to calligraphy to a spray of flowers. A collection created in collaboration with five Algerian artists!
An ethical project
La Makanerie is also (and above all?) a slow-fashion project. In keeping with the idea of promoting the heritage of the Mediterranean, the designers are committed to protecting the region’s cultural and environmental heritage. That’s why all their collections respect the most demanding environmental label on the world market: the Global Organic Textile Standard. Created by a team of six, the pieces are made from GOTS-certified silk and wool.
