A Rich Programme in Mascara
The event spans five days and includes open days at historical sites.
A rich and varied programme has been organized in Mascara to celebrate the 192nd anniversary of the first allegiance (Moubayaâ) to Emir Abdelkader (November 27, 1832), according to the Directorate of Culture and Arts. Prepared by several sectors, this programme includes exhibitions highlighting the resistance journey of the founder of the modern Algerian state against the French colonial army, as well as a display of objects that once belonged to this historic figure.
The five-day programme also features open days at historical sites that bear witness to Emir Abdelkader’s resistance against the French colonial army. The activities will take place at the headquarters of the archaeological district for the protected cultural heritage of the wilaya.
In addition, educational visits have been scheduled to historical and archaeological sites linked to the resistance of the founder of the modern Algerian state. These include Dar El Qiyada, the Emir’s court (Mahkama), and Zmala (the itinerant capital) in the commune of Ghriss. These visits are planned for students from schools, trainees from vocational training centres, students from the “Mustapha Stambouli” University of Mascara, and members of cultural and youth institutions.
Documentaries about this national historical figure will be screened in educational, cultural, and youth institutions, as well as at the university. Intellectual and cultural competitions will also be held for children enrolled in youth and cultural centres.
The programme includes poetry evenings dedicated to this historic event, along with conferences and symposiums led by university professors focusing on Emir Abdelkader’s resistance against the French colonial army. Workshops on archaeological mosaics will be conducted under the supervision of the local branch of the archaeological district for protected cultural heritage.
Moreover, specific activities related to the first allegiance to Emir Abdelkader will be held in the mosques and zaouias of the wilaya, alongside other diverse events.
