ALGIERS – A grandiose military parade, the first in 33 years, is being organized, in Algiers, by the People’s National Army (ANP) on the occasion of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of independence, under the supervision of the President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The military show of force, which perpetuates the entrenched military traditions of the People’s National Army, takes place on the National Road (RN 11), adjoining Djamaâ El Djazaïr to El Mohammadia.
It is broadcast live on all Algerian television channels.
Several Heads of State and delegations from brotherly and friendly countries, who arrived in Algiers on Monday, take part in this parade marking the festivities of the 60th anniversary of the recovery of national sovereignty.
They are the President of the Republic of Tunisia, Mr Kaïs Saïed, the President of the State of Palestine, Mr Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Republic of Congo, Mr Denis Sassou-Nguesso, the President of the Republic of Niger, Mr. Mohamed Bazoum, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Mrs. Sahle-Work Zewdie, President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, President of the Italian Senate , Mrs. Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, the Libyan Minister for Foreign Affairs Najla el Menkouche and the Emirati Minister for Tolerance and Coexistence Secheikh Nahyane Ben Mabrouk al Nahyane.
Earlier, President Tebboune, inaugurated, at the esplanade of Riadh El Feth (Algiers), a stele dedicated to the “Friends of the Algerian Revolution”, on the occasion of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the recovery of national sovereignty. Adorned with the words “Friends of the Revolution: brothers in struggle, eternal gratitude”, the stele bears the names of foreign friends of the glorious National Liberation Revolution.
Right after, President Tebboune paid a tribute to the memory of Algerian martyrs of the glorious Liberation War at the Algiers Martyr Sanctuary. After the Republican Guard gave him an honorary salute, President Tebboune, who was accompanied by senior officials in the state and the army, laid a wreath of flowers in front of the memorial, observed a minute of silence and recited the Fatiha of the Holy Quran in memory of the chouhada of the National Liberation War.
The President of the Republic was accompanied by the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Mr. Salah Goudjil, the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (APN), Mr. Brahim Boughali, the Prime Minister, Mr. Aimene Benabderrahmane, and the Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), Army General Saïd Chanegriha, as well as senior State officials, members of the Government and the mujahideen.
