Zoulikha Adi, with her bravery and courage, wrote a line of light in the story of heroism and dignity that Algeria recorded, the country of a million martyrs, over the 130 years period of the French occupation of Algeria.

Zulekha Adi was one of the resistance fighters, who refused the affluence of life and a quiet life, and she lined up next to the men of her country from the brave fighters who fought the French colonialism of their homeland with all the strength, effort, time, and even the souls of satisfaction. They did not settle for a moment and did not surrender. .

Birth and upbringing
Yamina Al-Shayeb, famous for Zoulikha Adi, was born in the Algerian city of Cherchell, on May 7, 1911, to a fighter family that did not accept grievance. From poverty, oppression, tyranny and tyranny, it reached the limit of slavery, disease, and the spread of ignorance.

Her youth and joining the ranks of fighters
All this affected and qualified Zulekha Adi to be in the first ranks of the fighting, in which she gained confidence due to her courage, acumen and sharp intelligence. She was a strong and influential factor among the Algerian resistance fighters, as she actively participated in the formation of new cells, in addition to her pioneering role in spreading national awareness among Algerians and thwarting plans. ASS, which aimed to break the Algerian revolution and isolate it from the people.

Zulekha Adi used to provide the resistance with the necessary logistical support by collecting money and providing supplies and medicines, and it also provided moral support through national awareness among the Algerian people in Cherchell and the neighboring cities, and despite the martyrdom of her husband and son, Zulekha did not back down and did not abandon her case.

Her arrest and execution
And upon the martyrdom of Abul-Qassem Al-Alawi, Zulekha succeeded him in commanding the Algerian army in Cherchell against the French colonialist, which made it at the top of the list of people wanted by the French colonialists.

The French colonialists tried repeatedly to arrest Zulekha, but each time their attempts were unsuccessful, until the colonialist carried out a wide sweep operation targeting the Bou Harb Mountains and Sidi Soliman, so Zulekha fell into the hands of the French occupation, on October 15, 1957, so the occupation practiced the most heinous torture on it. For 10 consecutive days, to interrogate her and learn information about the Mujahideen from her, but Zulekha stood steadfast in the face of all forms of torture.

Even the enemy tied Zulekha in a military vehicle, dragged her and tortured her in the street in front of the Algerian people to be an example to the Mujahideen. She only shouted at the top of her voice, “O brothers, look to the mountain, look up to the mountain.” And when the colonist from Zulekha became angry and lost hope in interrogation, he cast Live from a helicopter.

The body of Zulekha remained unknown, and no one found it and its whereabouts were not known from that date until 1984, where an elderly peasant spoke that one day in 1957 he found a broken woman on the road and buried her, and when he dug in the place where he was buried, they actually found the bones of a woman and the remains Her dress she was executed with and she was identified.

Zulekha Adi remained a bright and honorable story in the role of Algerian women, side by side with her male brothers in fighting French colonialism and every colonialist. The national flag flies. “
