ALGIERS- The first crossing on the sea line, exclusively meant for export, between Algiers and Mauritania’s capital Nouakchott began Monday from the port of Algiers.

This new line, supervised by the company “Anisfer Line” specializing in maritime transport, will reduce the export time to Mauritania to five days, according to the explanations provided by the general manager of the company, Mustapha Hamadou, during the launching ceremony of the crossing, which took place in the presence of representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs, trade and industry as well as the General Directorate of Customs (DGD).

The company organizes a new trip every 20 days on this line to export various Algerian products to Mauritania as well as to other neighboring African countries.

During this first voyage, locally manufactured building materials were transported aboard the ship “Imedghassen” belonging to the Algerian company “GMA” and which has a shipping capacity of 1,000 containers.

Mr. Hamadou stressed that the opening of this maritime line, which is the first direct line to Africa, will allow Algeria to export its various products to the African continent in record time, as well as to offer the best conditions to preserve the goods and protect them from damage, highlighting that the operation took place with 100% Algerian capacities “.

He added: “With the arrival of Algerian products in Nouakchott by sea, it is possible to” easily “use land routes to deliver goods to other African countries, such as Mali, Senegal and other countries.

The opening of this line responds to the strong demand expressed by Algerian exporters who wish to access African markets, particularly in the west of the continent, pointed out Mr. Hammadou.

To this end, the general manager of the shipping company GMA, Mr. Ali Ourak called on the public authorities to “facilitate the opening of other maritime lines to other destinations and continents”, including the granting of bank loans in favor of Algerian companies specializing in maritime transport with a view to strengthening their export potential.

For his part, the director of monitoring and promotion of external trade at the Ministry of Commerce, Salim Regad considered that the national maritime freight activity “is very modest at present”, recommending to work for its promotion and support for Algerian exporters to penetrate European and African markets.
