ALGIERS- The minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies, Chems Eddine Chitour, on Tuesday expressed Algeria’s determination to contribute to the implementation of the UN strategy on the fight against climate change.
In an op-ed in the national daily Le Soir d’Algerie, Chitour reiterated Algeria’s commitment to contributing to the implementation of the United Nations strategy on the fight against climate change and to participating with “determination in the work of IRENA, in support of the promotion of renewable energies.”
The minister mentioned the drawing up of the white paper on the impact of climate change in Algeria, as well as the efforts to mitigate its “harmful” effects, noting that these efforts were “appreciated.”
He also said that Algeria was elected to key bodies of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), following the work of the 21st meeting of the Council of this inter-governmental organization on 25 and 26 May.
Algeria was successively elected member then vice-president of the Programme and Strategy Committee (CSP), and also as a member of the Advisory Committee on Ethics for a two-year term, Chitour added.
