Algerian judo player Abdellaoui Cherine won the gold medal at Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, today, Friday, after defeating Canadian Gagni Priscilla in the under-52 kg final with a full point.
The Algerian, who won the bronze medal in the Rio 2016 games, was exempted from the round of sixteen before winning the quarter final against Ukrainian Nikolaichik Natalia.
With the same full mark, Cherine knocked out, in the semi-finals, Japanese Fijiwara Yu, who is among the top ten players in the International Federation for the visually impaired.
In the final, the Algerian managed to snatch the gold in front of the Canadian player with the full point, 1 min and 45 s before the end of the fight.
The bronze medal in the less than 52kg category went to Russia’s Alicia Stepanuk and Ukraine’s Natalia Nikolaichik.
For his part, Algerian Ishak Ould Kouider ranked ninth in the under-60 weight category, after being defeated twice.
In the round of sixteen, he lost to Blanco Marius Denis (Venezuela) before being defeated in the re-take for the bronze medal against Namuzov Cherzod (Uzbekistan) with a full point.
