The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, decided to create the positions of special envoys in charge of international activities for Algeria and to conduct a wide movement in the diplomatic body affecting more than 70 diplomatic and consular positions.
In the context of approving the government’s work plan during the Council of Ministers held on August 30, the President of the Republic decided to modify and sharpen the tools of Algerian diplomacy to involve them strongly in the modern working formulas of global diplomacy pursued today by the great powers and international organizations.
The aim of this decision is to give the diplomatic apparatus the necessary flexibility, effectiveness and interaction in order to enable our country to face the multiple challenges in the current situation.
The decision came to appoint the seven special envoys under the direct authority of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to assign them to lead the international activity of Algeria according to seven axes related to basic efforts that reflect its interests and priorities.
This amendment aims to enhance the ability of our diplomacy to interact and influence, the presence of Algeria and the effectiveness of its work on the regional and international arenas, as well as with regard to global issues that are comprehensive in several aspects.
For the positions of special envoys, experienced diplomats as well as high-ranking officials and experts were chosen.
It is concerned with frameworks with extensive experience that qualifies them to provide useful and collective accompaniment to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, especially in the field of analysis and anticipation within the framework of the approach set by the President of the Republic in order to establish a truly dynamic and proactive diplomacy that is qualified to take the initiative with regard to major regional and international files while pursuing The logic of influence to enhance the role of Algeria as a productive mediating force and exporter of peace, stability and security.
Wide movement in the diplomatic corps
In the same regard, President Tebboune took a decision to launch a wide movement in the diplomatic corps concerning more than 70 diplomatic and consular posts.
This real diplomatic deployment is characterized by a willingness to follow the head of the state in order to mobilize the experience of many cadres who have a share of decades of activity to serve Algeria’s interests in the world, with the promotion of many young diplomats, and the keenness to increase the percentage of women’s representation in the corps.

The other axis, which raises the interest of decision-makers, concerns the necessity of reactivating the General Directorate of Strategic Vigilance, Forecasting and Crisis Management as an important tool in contemporary diplomacy.
In the context of various and varied challenges (Covid-19, deadly fires, conflict in Western Sahara, regional tensions over Mali and Libya…), this important directorate had to anticipate hostile acts and fierce propaganda campaigns directed against Algeria.
The ideal mobilization of Algerian diplomacy in this particular circumstance comes naturally to accompany the strategic sector of national defense in the field of strengthening the immunity of territorial integrity, independence, sovereignty and national unity of Algeria.
