Algeria expressed on Saturday its “categorical rejection of the inadmissible interference in its internal affairs” following the undeniable remarks that several French sources have attributed by name to the President of the French Republic, said the Presidency of the Republic in a statement.
“Following the undeniable remarks that several French sources have attributed by name to the President of the French Republic, Algeria expresses its categorical rejection of the inadmissible interference in its internal affairs that constitute the said remarks,” the same source said.
“The comments in question are an intolerable attack on the memory of 5,630,000 brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives in their heroic resistance to the French colonial invasion and in the Glorious Revolution of National Liberation,” the Presidency of the Republic adds, stating that “the crimes of colonial France in Algeria are countless and meet the most demanding definitions of genocide against humanity. These crimes, which are not subject to the statute of limitations, cannot be subject to manipulation of the facts and mitigating interpretations.
For the Presidency of the Republic, “the propensity of the nostalgic of French Algeria and of the circles that resign themselves with difficulty to the full independence that the Algerians won with great struggle, is expressed through vain attempts to hide the exactions, massacres, burning and destruction of villages, hundreds of Oradour-Sur-Glane, eradications of tribes of resistance fighters, which are genocides in series that the conceptual acrobatics and the political shortcuts will never manage to hide”.
“For their part, the superficial assessments, approximate and tendentious stated in relation to the building of the Algerian national state and the affirmation of national identity are a hegemonic conception of relations between states and can not, in any way, be compatible with the firm commitment of Algeria to the sovereign equality of states, “said in the statement.
“This unfortunate intervention, which fundamentally contradicts the principles that should govern a possible Algerian-French cooperation in terms of memory, has the incorrigible flaw of tending to promote an apologistic version of colonialism to the detriment of the vision established by the History of the legitimacy of national liberation struggles, while nothing and no one can absolve the colonial powers of their crimes, including the massacres of October 17 in Paris which Algeria and its community in France are preparing to commemorate in dignity, “adds the same source.
“Faced with the particularly unacceptable situation caused by these irresponsible remarks, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has decided the immediate recall in consultations of the Algerian ambassador to the French Republic,” the statement concluded.
