Timimoun – Fifteen local heritage troupes, including two ensembles for youths (under 14 years old), are participating in the 14th edition of the National Cultural Festival of Ahaleil, which started this Monday evening in the provence of Tamimoun under the slogan “Al-Ahaleil’s poems between the apparent linguistic meaning and the depth and dimensions of their significance.”
The opening ceremony of this heritage event (December 27-30), which took place in the presence of the state authorities, was marked by the organization of folkloric performances in the center of the city of Timimoun, which were activated by local folkloric groups of various folkloric natures that abound in the region, such as the gunpowder, Al-Qarqabo and Al-Hadra groups.
This edition was distinguished by the opening of participation for young children under the age of 14 to form talents, establish teams for young buds and enter the competition in order to ensure the transmission of this authentic lyrical heritage to the younger generations in a way that helps to value and preserve it, according to the festival’s governor, Ahmed Jouli.
On the sidelines of this edition of the festival, dedicated to the soul of the deceased Sheikh Tallawy Muhammad, known as (Hamou Koko), a cultural symposium was organized by university professors dealing with several axes, including “the folkloric performance pattern of Al-Ahaleil”, “Al-Ahaleil’s poems between their linguistic appearance and the depth of their meaning” and Symbolism and sentimentality in Al-Ahaleil’s poems”, according to the organizers.
Ahsleil Guerara is one of the constituent elements of Algerian culture and has been classified within the intangible human heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Al-Ahaleil are poems of Azlawan in the Berber tongue (Zanati) for which the Gurara region is famous since ancient times. It is performed by women and men standing in a circular shape, drawing a wonderful artistic painting as it mixes between music, poetry and applause, followed by physical movements in harmony with the melody.
It is worth noting that the performances of the participating teams will be held in the open air theater in the Al Hamra Oasis at the beginning of this night, where the evaluation of the performance of the participating teams is supervised by a local jury.
The Timimouni audience and tourists in this charming tourist area will be on a date with the eternal tune of Gurara.
