In a speech read on his behalf by the Prime Minister, Aïmene Benabderrahmane during a ceremony organized in Hassi-Messaoud on the occasion of the double celebration of the 66th anniversary of the creation of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA) and the 51st anniversary of the nationalization of hydrocarbons, President Tebboune explained that “the development of primary production recorded a notable increase in 2021 amounting to a rate of 14% for hydrocarbons and 23% for gas.
Overall, the national production, which has tripled since 1971, currently reaches 200 million tonnes of oil, particularly natural gas,” said Mr. Tebboune.
“Algeria has acquired “significant capacities” in terms of hydrocarbon development, now having major industrial infrastructures in the field of oil refining, petrochemical industries, transport via pipelines and export, in particular through pipelines linking our country to Europe, in addition to natural gas liquefaction capacities and LNG carriers,” underlined Mr. Tebboune.
“These efforts have been crowned by the reduction of imports of petroleum derivatives to more than 50% in 2021, moving towards exports in the coming years,” explained President Tebboune, recalling that no quantity of fuel was imported in 2021.
With regard to the supply of energy sources to the population, President of the Republic expressed “his pride” in achieving a qualitative leap in the region, regarding the connection of more than 99% of households to electricity and 65% to natural gas.
President Tebboune noted, in this sense, the continuation of efforts to connect landlocked areas across the national territory, agricultural perimeters and various farms in order to improve the living conditions of the population and strengthen the economic dynamics.
