ALGIERS- Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad Ramtan Lamamra, on Thursday, recalled the commendable characteristics of the deceased Moudjahid, diplomat and former Foreign Minister Mohamed Seddik Benyahia, calling on young people to follow the example of this “model and exemplary” character.
Lamamra said in a speech during a seminar organized on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the martyrdom of Mohamed Seddik Benyahia, that this station was “an important memory for Algeria and all peoples eager for peace and a special occasion for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Algerian diplomatic family as it is held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which bears the name of the martyr Mohamed Seddik Benyahia”.
Lamamra continued ”We stand today in tribute to the spirit of the martyr of duty and the Algerian and international diplomacy, the martyr who dedicated his life to serve Algeria as a fighter and a militant and a brilliant negotiator during the glorious liberation revolution, he was a man of revolution before he was a man of State”.
Mr. Lamamra highlighted that the deceased “participated in all stages of construction of the country and played crucial roles in many stages of his life, in addition to holding important diplomatic positions, he also participated in the conception and development of curricula, ideas and plans that were applied during the days of the late President Houari Boumediene, so that he played a role in internal policies and performed tasks with merit and ability”.
The Minister also recalled that the martyr ” practiced diplomacy before the birth of modern Algerian diplomacy, he practiced it first when he did his best to reunite the Algerian youth on the University, he played a key role in the establishment of the General Union of Algerian Muslim students, a great organization, adds the minister, that provided the armed struggle with an enormous set of competent and committed personnal, which have spread throughout the world and have done tremendous work in order to mobilize support for the liberation revolution.
During the seminar, a documentary about the struggle of the late was presented; the family of the Moudjahid was also honored, where the tribute was received by the nephew of the deceased, Abdelmalek Benyahia, who thanked the president of the Republic and the organizers of this seminar.
