KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian investors and the business community are urged to explore new opportunities in various sectors in Algeria, including the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector.
Algeria’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Saad Maandi, said in line with the ‘New Algeria’ agenda declared by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune after winning the election more than two years ago, it offered various investment opportunities and Malaysian industry players were welcome to have more cooperation in the country. .
“Algeria has adopted a new bill to create an attractive investment climate for foreign companies and I believe it will be a good opportunity for Malaysians to explore the potential there.
“It is in line with the ‘New Algeria’ vision of 54 commitments covering various sectors to make Algeria stronger, safer and more prosperous,” Maandi told Bernama after paying a courtesy call on Bernama chairman Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi here today.
Answering a question on how Malaysia and Algeria could increase bilateral trade activities, he said industry participants from each country should use the trade exchange exhibition platform to be held in Algeria next year.
“Malaysia has extensive experience in this regard and as we (in Algeria) have more potential, we want to strengthen cooperation by exploring opportunities together.
“I have met several stakeholders including MATRADE and invited the business community here to participate (in the exhibition) to identify investment opportunities,” he said.
Over the past 25 years, Malaysia’s exports to Algeria have reportedly increased at a rate of 5.24 per cent, from US $ 24.3 million in 1995 to US $ 87.1 million in 2020.
