Algiers- Sonatrach announced, on Monday, three discoveries, including two gas discoveries based on its effort, and another oil discovery in partnership with the Italian company Eni.
The state-owned oil company Sonatrach has unveiled a trio of gas, oil and condensate discoveries across three separate basins, two of which will be fast-tracked to first oil.
In the Illizi basin, Sonatrach made a gas and condensate discovery with its In Ekker Sud West-1 exploration well in the In Amenas 2 licence.
The probe hit two Devonian-age reservoirs, each of which were tested.
Sonatrach said one test flowed 300,000 cubic metres per day of gas (about 10.6 million cubic feet per day) and 26 cubic metres per day of condensate (about 158 barrels per day).
The statement by the company said : “the first operation concerns the discovery of condensed gas in two reservoirs of the Devonian layer, and this is after the exploration carried out by Sonatrach in an exploratory well in Ein Iker southwest-1 (IEKSW-1) in the Ain Amenas 2 research area in the Illizi Basin.”
The flow rates recorded during the tests were 300,000 m 3 / day of gas, 26 m 3 / day of condensate from the first reservoir, 213,000 m 3 / day of gas and 17 m 3 / day of condensate from the second reservoir.
The second well test achieved flow rates of 213,000 cubic metres per day of gas and 17 cubic metres per day of condensate.
This find will be brought on stream quickly via a tieback to the Ohanet complex.
Sonatrach also drilled a successful delineation well in its Taghit licence in the Bechar basin, opening up what appears to be a new gas play.
The third discovery — made by Sonatrach and partner Eni in the prolific Berkine basin — will also be fast-tracked to production.
The Rhourde Oulad Djemaa Ouest-1 probe was drilled in the Sif Fatima 2 licence as part of an ongoing multi-well exploration campaign, and hit oil and associated gas in a Lower Triassic play.
During a production test, the well flowed 1300 barrels per day of oil and 51,000 cubic metres per day of associated gas.
This discovery will be brought online quickly through facilities on the Rhourde Oulad Djemaa asset. They confirm the existence of a significant potential for gas in this previously untested reservoir in an area considered a nascent region.
