Kenya will borrow a leaf from Algeria’s use of technology to boost agricultural production, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula has said.

Wetang’ula who paid a courtesy call to Wali (governor) of Algiers, Ahmed Maaded lauded Algeria for advanced technology in agriculture and value addition.

Speaking during a tour of an exhibition displaying a vast range of agricultural produce, Wetang’ula congratulated, manufacturers, traders and the business community for their innovations and dedication to producing high-quality products.

“I am very impressed with the level of innovation and creativity displayed here in Algeria. I am impressed with the process of food production right from farms to processing of final products,” he said.

He said Kenya and Algeria need to explore possible ways of collaboration in agriculture, and manufacturing.

“My country Kenya is working to boost food production through irrigation, and technological innovation,” he told the hosts.

Maaded noted that Wilaya of Wali in Blida, Algiers is known for high agricultural production and industrial processing of products.

Maaded guided Wetang’ula in visiting various production companies and agricultural farms in the area committed to supporting Kenya – Algeria partnership in food production.

“I am happy to receive you in Blida. I encourage you to tour the region, exchange ideas, and explore possibilities of cooperation in agriculture, industrial production and trade,” he said.

Maaded said that Africa is well-endowed with natural resources which when put to good use will sustain the continent without much struggle.

Wetang’ula visited the Venus Plant which manufactures beauty products, the Vitro Plant- an insecticide-producing firm, Expesimed Company, which deals with treatment for diabetes, Daim Grin Company which produces animal feeds and Agrodiv which specialises in the manufacturing of pasta.

Wetang’ula is currently in Algeria for an official visit and is accompanied by Cabinet Affairs PS Julius Korir and a host of legislators.
