Algeria topped the ranking of the Arab teams participating in the African Athletics Championships, which came to an end in Mauritius on Sunday evening.
The Algerian team came fourth in the list of the final standings, after winning five gold, three silver and one bronze. Kenya topped the list, while South Africa came second, and Nigeria came third.
Gold was awarded to Algeria by runners: Amine Bouanani (110m hurdles), Soliman Moula (800m), Hicham Bouhannoun (high jump), Mahdi Ammar Rouana (pole vault), and Larbi Bourada (decathlon).
The silver medals were won by Ibrahim Hulu (400m steeplechase), Hisham Sharabi (pole vault) and Zeina Bouzbara (hammer throw), while the bronze medal was returned to Yasir Turki in the triple jump competition.
The Algerian pentathlon, who won the precious metal in the African Championships, is entitled to participate in the World Championships in Athletics, to be held in Eugene, USA, between 15 and 24 July.
