Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Egypt are expected to play a central role in hydrogen production and export, according to a member of the hydrogen council, the chairman of Europe’s Hydrogen industry group, based in Brussels, engineer Salah Mahdi.
In a statement to the energy platform, Mehdi said Algeria was ready to take the lead in this emerging industry, as it had played a central role in the markets for many years. traditional oil and gas energy for several reasons, the most important of which was the availability of cheap natural resources of solar and wind energy.
Mahdi added that Algeria’s main attraction was its proximity to the eventual hydrogen market, the European market, which would continue for many years to come. “If we know that the biggest obstacle to the hydrogen industry is transport between the production and consumption markets, it means that this region is closest to the European consumer market, so the country is the perfect choice. to play a very important pivotal role in the global industry,” Mehdi said.
Mahdi pointed to data released by the European Commission over the past few days, including plans to import at least 10 million tonnes of hydrogen by 2030.
