ALGIERS- The President of the National People’s Assembly (APN), Mr. Brahim Boughali, said on Tuesday that all the conditions were met today in Algeria for the achievement of food security, welcoming the political will, level to implement this approach.
During the opening of a parliamentary day under the theme “National strategy to ensure sustainable food security”, organized by the parliamentary group of the Al-Bina Movement at the headquarters of the APN, Mr. Boughali said that the conditions the achievement of food security “were met, in particular the political will and the determination to win this bet, in addition to the availability of human resources capable of taking up the challenge”.
The same official highlighted the particular interest given to the agricultural sector and food security by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who “has placed this sector among the priorities, which has enabled us to achieve a good level of production, to reduce the import bill and to attract foreign currencies”.
And to continue: “what has been achieved in a short time thanks to an adequate legal, political and financial climate makes it possible to promote production to guarantee self-sufficiency and export products within the framework of the creation of alternative resources to rent oil”.
According to Mr. Boughali, Algeria has faced the instability experienced by the world due to the pandemic and climate change, which has led to a disruption of global food and an increase in product prices, with “a series of necessary and adequate measures to protect society from the shortage of products”, recalling, in this regard, the declarations of the President of the Republic to the national press “the radical solution to deal with high prices and the shortage of food products in the market is to strengthen national production”.
He also recalled the roadmap (2020-2024) included in the Government’s action program based on the program of the President of the Republic and which mainly provides for the development of Saharan agriculture, the promotion of the green economy and the application of sprinkler irrigation systems at the level of nearly 939,200 hectares (64% of the total irrigated area).
It is also about the use of renewable energies in farms located in the Hauts-Plateaux and the South, the promotion of forests and the use of the university as an important partner in the promotion of innovation and of research.
The President of the APN also commended the efforts of the Committee for Agriculture, Fisheries and Environmental Protection of the APN for its support for the Government’s efforts to promote the sector, in particular the information missions of the said commission.
