Four calligraphers from Médéa have produced no less than six km of Arabic calligraphy at Djamaa El-Djazair (the great mosque of Algiers), which constitutes a record in this discipline through places of worship around the world, a- we learned from this association.
“With six km of Arabic calligraphy carried out at the level of Djamaâ El-Djazaïr, we managed to beat a record never recorded in any mosque in the world”, indicated to the APS, Kara Bernou Abderazzak, one of the calligraphers in charge of the works. of ornament and illumination at the Great Mosque of Algiers, on the sidelines of their participation in the National Fair of Plastic Arts “Baya Mahieddine”, held recently in Blida.
This meticulous work was carried out by four Algerian calligraphers, members of the Errakim association, dedicated to the promotion of crafts and visual arts, “in record time: no more than a year, instead of the two years initially scheduled. for this stain, ”Kara explained.
This artist also deplored the absence of “publicity to promote” this artistic work, which “conferred great beauty and brought a certain aesthetic touch to the great mosque of Algiers, unlike any other”, notably thanks to the “harmonious marriage of Koufi calligraphy, with thuluth (or soulouci), and illumination”.
Mr Kara Bernou notably cited the beautiful bands of Koufi calligraphy adorning the exterior of the mosque, its hall and the prayer room, in addition to the large paintings carved in limestone outside the mosque, and in marble. for the interior, while others are carved in wood and plaster.
The models of these calligraphic sculptures were made by hand before their digitization while the marble sculptures were made in China, and those on limestone in Italy.
The calligraphies represent Hadiths, poems and proverbs, but above all verses from the Holy Quran, the location of which has been carefully considered, in accordance with the instructions of the commission of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Wakfs. As an indication, the verses and hadiths relating to cleanliness and purity are placed in the ablution room, when those related to prayer are placed inside the mosque, explained Kara Bernou.
Errakim, permanent effort to preserve Arabic calligraphy
The Errakim association attaches great importance to Arabic calligraphy, through its participation in numerous national and foreign events, Kara Bernou said.
He has announced his participation, along with calligraphers Bentorkia Amine and Doukh Abdelghani, at numerous international festivals, in India, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates, where their works, both collective and individual , were rewarded with the first places on the podium, he said.
This association also works to further promote this art, through the organization, each year, of national workshops bringing together calligraphers from all over the country, and even from Arab and Muslim countries.
