EL-OUED – Research laboratories at the “Chahid Hamma Lakhdar” University of El-Oued, have undertaken to provide technical support for the international cooperation project aimed at improving the processing and marketing of camel milk.
Entitled “Camel Milk”, the project is part of the Partnership Program for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Region (PRIMA), concerning food systems and water resources in the Mediterranean basin, specified the head of the information and communication department at the University of El-Oued, Dr. Khalifa Gaïd.
It brings together a group of experts and teacher-researchers specialized in fields related to the breeding of dairy cattle, from seven (7) Mediterranean countries, namely Spain, Germany, Italy , France, Croatia, Turkey, in addition to Algeria which harbors a camel wealth capable of contributing to economic growth, he continued.
The members of the project are involved in the search for solutions to promote the production chain and obtain scientific results to enhance and improve the quality of camel milk products, added the same manager.
The regulatory procedures which would facilitate the marketing of the dairy products in the member countries of the European Union, Turkey and Algeria, the creation of farms specializing in the production of camel milk, obtaining the quality label, in addition to carrying out a study on the consumer’s acceptance of dairy products made from camel milk, were other themes retained within the framework of the project, he further indicated.
On the economic level, a private investment (farm and dairy Tidjane) based in El-Oued, was created in order to concretize the results of this project on the ground, in particular with regard to the questions relating to the causes of mortality, the zoonoses, camel pathologies, the necessary veterinary follow-up, the nutritional offer, the increase in camel milk production and the modernization of milking machines, according to the source.
The results of this scientific project will be published before the end of the current year, it was reported.
