Maire Group’s Tecnimont secures $1.1 billion EPCC contract for an LAB plant in Algeria, enhancing Italy-Algeria petrochemical ties for 2028
In a significant development for the Italian technology and engineering sector, Maire Group has announced that its premier subsidiary, Tecnimont, known for its Integrated E&C Solutions, has been awarded a lucrative contract worth $1.1 billion. The contract is to provide comprehensive EPCC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning) services for a pioneering petrochemical project in Algeria, underscoring the company’s leading position in the global market.
Awarded by Sonatrach, the national oil company of Algeria, the contract mandates Tecnimont to construct a state-of-the-art linear alkyl benzene (LAB) facility within the Skikda industrial zone, situated 350 km east of the Algerian capital, Algiers. LAB is acclaimed for its cost-effectiveness and biodegradability, serving as a critical intermediate in the manufacture of household detergents, industrial cleaners, and surfactants.
Tecnimont’s selection by Sonatrach was a result of a competitive tendering process, highlighting the company’s exemplary project execution capabilities and its enduring presence in Algeria. Maire Group CEO Alessandro Bernini expressed pride in reinforcing the group’s track record with Sonatrach, especially given the strategic importance of the bilateral relationship between Italy and Algeria within the current global energy supply framework.
