ALGIERS- “The Medal of the Friends of the Algerian Revolution” was given, on behalf of President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to Italian journalist Bernardo Valli, in recognition to his honorable stances vis-à-vis the glorious national liberation war and his support to the struggle of the Algerian people for freedom and independence.
The distinction of Mr. Valli, who resides in France, was presented, on behalf of President Tebboune, by the Algerian ambassador to France, Antar Daoud, during a ceremony organized, on March 9, at the headquarters of the embassy of Algeria to Paris in the presence of former mujahideen, heads of consular posts in the Ile-de-France region and the diplomatic staff.
The ceremony for awarding this medal comes following the publication in the official gazette, last November, of the presidential decree concerning the decision to award this distinction to Mr. Valli, in recognition to his honorable stances vis-a-vis the glorious war of national liberation and its support for the fight of the Algerian people for freedom and independence.
In his speech delivered on this occasion, the Algerian ambassador to France expressed to the journalist “the gratitude of the Algerian State and people for their resolute support which emanates from their faith in the justice of the Algerian cause”.
Mr. Daoud stressed that Mr. Valli’s contribution continued, after the end of the war, by transmitting history through his participation in the film “The Battle of Algiers”.
“This is why my country, through this distinction, recognizes and salutes your contribution to the documentation of this crucial period of its history, which enabled it toay, at the cost of supreme sacrifices, to be free, independent and sovereign, “ added the ambassador.
For his part, the recipient of the Medal expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Algerian authorities headed by the President of the Republic as well as to all “his Algerian brothers” for this gesture of recognition which honors him.
