The 14th Francophone Film Festival of Angouleme, due to take place in this French city on August 24-29, has scheduled a section “Tribute to Algerian Cinema” that will screen about fifty Algerian movies, organizers announced on the festival’s website.
Under the slogan “honoring Algerian cinema“, 12 Algerian films will be screened from new and old productions, under a supervision of the Algerian actor and director Lyes Salem, who in 2008 won the” Valois d’Or “Award for Best Film for his work” Masquerades “and in 2014 the” Valois Best Actor “award for his role in” Wahrani”, which he also directed.
“Chronicle of the Years of Fire” (1975) by Mohamed Lakhdar Hamina, ” Omar Gatlato” and ” The family. Original title: El-aayla” (2021) by Merzak Allouache, as well as “Nahla” (1979) by Farouk Belloufa and ”De Hollywood à Tamanrasset” (1990) by Mahmoud zamouri will be screened at the same festival.
It will also display “Harem of Madame Osmane” (2000) by Nadir Moknèche and ” Abou Leila” (2019) by Amin Sidi-Boumediene as well as “Their Algeria” (2020) by Lina Soualem.
As part of the festival program, an exhibition of fine art will also be held in honor of the late Algerian painter and designer Mahjoub Ben Bella.
Regarding music, it will also honor the late artists Ouarda El Djazairia and Rachid Taha. During this session, some sixty works from several countries, 10 of which will be presented in the framework of the official competition.
According to the sponsors, Francophone Film Festival of Angoulême, founded in 2008, is the first francophone festival in France where it aims to promote francophone cinema and promote and support young talent.
