ALGIERS – Algeria has made significant progress in digital transformation, according to researchers and specialists in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), calling for coordination and cooperation to overcome the obstacles encountered in this regard.<\/p>\n
During a meeting organized on Saturday by the National Institute of Global Strategic Studies (INESG) on digital development in Algeria, Mr. Younes Grar, a specialist and digitization consultant, emphasized that Algeria made significant progress in 2023 in deploying high-speed internet, citing the number of subscribers to the fiber optic network as evidence.<\/p>\n
Regarding the objectives of digitization in Algeria and its role in organizing and improving services, the speaker indicated that several sectors have recently succeeded in implementing the national digitization strategy to achieve “paperless” operations, citing as an example the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, where academics can now register or pay university and accommodation fees online.<\/p>\n
For his part, ICT expert Yazid Aguedal extensively discussed the transition from “paper” to “dematerialization,” stating that the recent agreement signed between the High Commission for Digitization and the Chinese group Huawei for the establishment of the Algerian National Center for Digital Services was “an important achievement reflecting the strong willingness of the Algerian authorities to invest in the digital world.” He added that this center “will assist in project management and defining development objectives in this field.”<\/p>\n
According to Mr. Aguedal, “realizing digital transformation requires groundwork and a conducive climate.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Director of Coordination and Monitoring of Modernization Projects at the Ministry of Finance, Mounir Moncef, emphasized “the need to meet five (5) conditions to achieve digitization objectives and overcome obstacles: cooperation, partnership, coordination, communication, and knowledge.”<\/p>\n
On this occasion, INESG honored Professor Youcef Mentalecheta for his contribution to the development of the Information and Communication Technologies sector in Algeria.<\/p>\n
The Director-General of the Institute, Mr. Abdelaziz Medjahed, called on students to take example from this mujahid and researcher who contributed to the development of the country’s telecommunications system.<\/p>\n
In a speech delivered on this occasion, Mr. Youcef Mentalecheta called on the upcoming generations to arm themselves with science and religion, which he described as “keys to success,” emphasizing the imperative of involving established national talents abroad in the battle of construction and development.<\/p>\n
