{"id":1487,"date":"2020-10-07T18:51:30","date_gmt":"2020-10-07T18:51:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jazairhope.org\/?p=1487"},"modified":"2020-10-07T18:51:30","modified_gmt":"2020-10-07T18:51:30","slug":"the-north-african-country-is-preparing-to-reopen-schools-as-covid-19-cases-breach-the-2-1-million-mark-in-mena","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jazairhope.org\/en\/the-north-african-country-is-preparing-to-reopen-schools-as-covid-19-cases-breach-the-2-1-million-mark-in-mena\/","title":{"rendered":"The North African country is preparing to reopen schools as Covid-19 cases breach the 2.1 million-mark in Mena"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The number of Covid-19 cases in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region crossed 2,108,215 on 5 October, according to Worldometers data collated by MEED.<\/p>\n<hgroup>\n<h1>MENA COVID-19 CASES SINCE 1 MARCH (EXCLUDING IRAN)<\/h1>\n<h2>SOURCE: MEED<\/h2>\n<\/hgroup>\n<p>Case data: WHO<\/p>\n<div class=\"cell s-large-9\" data-equalizer-watch=\"\">\n<div class=\"post-content pt-0\">\n<div class=\"storytext\">\n<p>The GCC&#8217;s six countries account for 40 per cent (842,643)\u00a0of all cases in the Mena region, while Iran makes up 22.4 per cent of the total 2.1 million infections.<\/p>\n<p>On 4 October, Iran&#8217;s\u00a0Civil Aviation Organisation said all flights to and from Iraq had been cancelled until further notice to curb the spread of Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/image.digitalinsightresearch.in\/Uploads\/ImageLibrary\/Active\/MEED\/2020\/Covid-2\/05-oct-gcc-mena-iran.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Flights were being operated between both countries to transfer Iranians back home from Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>To date, Iran has confirmed\u00a0471,772 cases of Covid-19, with\u00a0389,966 recoveries and\u00a026,957 deaths.<\/p>\n<p>Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Yemen, Syria, Morocco and Lebanon\u00a0together comprise 37.7 per cent (793,800) of all regional infections.<\/p>\n<p>Algeria alone has confirmed\u00a052,136 cases so far, with\u00a036,578 recoveries and\u00a01,760 deaths.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/image.digitalinsightresearch.in\/Uploads\/ImageLibrary\/Active\/MEED\/2020\/Covid-2\/05-oct-gcc.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The North African country is further easing restrictions as it records a reduction in daily case numbers.<\/p>\n<p>On 4 October, it was announced that schools and universities will reopen on 21 October and 22 November, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, the preliminary draft of the 2021 Finance Law was presented to the Council of Ministers in a meeting chaired by President\u00a0Abdelmadjid Tebboune.<\/p>\n<p>Algerian authorities aim to rationalise economic balances\u00a0and will avoid introducing taxes that do not impact the size of the budget.
