But word got out and more ambitious plans developed, which resulted in a club for young people with live groups. It became one of the first cellar clubs to present rock \u2018n\u2019 roll exclusively when it opened in August 1959.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>And \u2018Mo\u2019, as she was called, decided to call it the Casbah club. <em><strong>This was because her favourite film at the time was Algiers<\/strong><\/em>, which starred Charles Boyer, who, people asserted, said <strong><em>\u2018Come with me to the Casbah,\u2019<\/em><\/strong> although that line of dialogue isn\u2019t actually in the film.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"ose-youtube ose-uid-7d1901d23ea1561d3e9e311e0be5da62 ose-embedpress-responsive\" style=\"width:600px; height:550px; max-height:550px; max-width:100%; display:inline-block;\" data-embed-type=\"Youtube\"><iframe allowFullScreen=\"true\" title=\"The Casbah Coffee Club\" width=\"600\" height=\"550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/F82Odi0QsOA?feature=oembed&color=red&rel=0&controls=1&start=&end=&fs=0&iv_load_policy=0&autoplay=0&mute=0&modestbranding=0&cc_load_policy=1&playsinline=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; encrypted-media;accelerometer;autoplay;clipboard-write;gyroscope;picture-in-picture clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Pete says, \u201cThe house at 8 Hayman\u2019s Green, where we lived, was big \u2013 big rooms. I used to have a gang of mates come round, school friends, and do what typical fifteen, sixteen year olds did at the time \u2013 go to the record player, crank it up to full blast and play every record you could put your hands on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMo said, \u2018Look, you\u2019ve got cellars underneath, why don\u2019t you go down and make it into a den for yourself? It\u2019s yours. Do what you want with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The resident group became the Quarry Men, who had re-formed especially for the club\u2019s opening on Saturday 29 August 1959. George Harrison, who was in another band, the Les Stewart Quartet, quit the outfit, along with Ken Brown, and sought out John and Paul to join them. The Quarry Men had been inactive for several months and had more or less disbanded. If Mo hadn\u2019t opened the Casbah, the Beatles might never have existed!<\/p>\n<p>In some ways, the Casbah has more right to be called \u2018the birthplace of the Beatles\u2019 than the Cavern, which didn\u2019t book them until two years later, when they had already become established locally.<\/p>\n<p>Pete is of that opinion and states, \u201cWe have always said that the Casbah was the birthplace of the Beatles. I know that the Cavern in Mathew Street has now announced that it\u2019s \u2018the birthplace of the Beatles\u2019, but as far as I\u2019m concerned, it was the Casbah. If it wasn\u2019t for the club the Beatles might never have got together again and what happened later wouldn\u2019t have transpired.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mo proved to be a very hard-working businesswoman and Pete recalls, \u201cMo also used the club as a showcase for new talent\u2026Mo liked the music. She was like a teenager. She was very avant-garde for the time.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<b>Casbah<\/b>, as it became widely known, was originally planned as a members-only club for her sons Pete and Rory and their friends. Mona had the idea after watching a TV report about a London bar where several famous singers had been discovered. The club opened on 29 August 1959.<\/p>\n<p>The pre-<b>Beatles<\/b>\u00a0band\u00a0<b>The Quarrymen<\/b>\u00a0with its members\u00a0<b>John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison<\/b>, and\u00a0<b>Ken Brown<\/b>\u00a0arranged their first booking in here. They even helped Mona to finish painting the club first. So all four guys took up brushes and helped her painting the walls with spiders, dragons, stripes, and stars. Among them, you can still see\u00a0<b>John Lennon&#8217;s<\/b>\u00a0Aztec inspired graphics on one of the ceilings. The\u00a0<b>Beatles<\/b>\u00a0themselves often played at the\u00a0<b>Casbah<\/b>\u00a0as other venues had a jazz-only policy at that time. The venue operated until 1962, providing a home for the distinctive Merseybeat sound which would change the face of popular music forever.<\/p>\n<p>The cellar with its original decoration still exists today so you can visit this unique basement club as it was in its very beginning.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"text-transform: initial;\">And JazairHope&#8230;..The menu &#8220;Casbah Club&#8221; of the website was added as an inspiration because the idea of building this website and creating JazairHope team was born during a youtube live in June 2020 with the famous Algerian political influencer, the patriot 72 Casbah which channel is <\/span><a style=\"text-transform: initial;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UC_ljp0GRWnYHgMf36nVih3A\/featured\">72 Casbah<\/a><span style=\"text-transform: initial;\">\u00a0 , A channel where most of the founding members of JazairHope have met, like the beatles have met in the Casbah Coffee Club.
