He grew up in the Belcourt district.<\/p>\n<p>In the 80s, he studied biology at the University of Bab Ezouar, while teasing the guitar and the pen. He evolves in the underground scene where the innovative maghrebian music is in gestation. He draws his first comic books, but his drawings were pilloried by an overcautious censor.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19082 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/jazairhope.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SIDI-Csb-Sha2-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jazairhope.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SIDI-Csb-Sha2-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/jazairhope.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SIDI-Csb-Sha2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jazairhope.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SIDI-Csb-Sha2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/jazairhope.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SIDI-Csb-Sha2.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In 1985, he arrived in Paris for a PhD in population genetics, but in 1988, after the October protests in Algiers, he decides to leave the world of science to concentrate on art. He publishes press cartoons in various magazines in France and in Algeria. He designs posters and album covers, he participates in exhibitions and does many odd jobs.<\/p>\n<p>With a few hardship fellows, he sets up a rock band \u201cwhich participates in more building sites than concerts\u201d. He had difficulties with migration documents and went through a tough period of hiding.<\/p>\n<p>In 1997, he created and directed the <strong>Association L\u2019Usine<\/strong>\u00a0in Arcueil, with artist friends, most of them Algerians who had just arrived in France. This collective occupies and manages a building that has been transformed into rehearsal and recording rooms and graphic designers\u2019 workshops. The place quickly became a meeting point for the Algerian scene in Paris, and a laboratory of artistic creation where many Algerian artists matured musical experiences of the 2000\u2019s:\u00a0<strong>Orchestre National de Barb\u00e8s, Ga\u00e2da Diwane de Bechar, Mad in Paris, Ra\u00ef kum, Thalweg\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19085 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/jazairhope.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SIDI-Csb2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"665\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jazairhope.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SIDI-Csb2.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/jazairhope.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SIDI-Csb2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jazairhope.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SIDI-Csb2-768x511.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In 1998, he finally released his first album:\u00a0<strong>\u201cCheikh Sidi Bemol\u201d<\/strong>, an inimitable mix of traditional music and electric guitars. He then released an album\u00a0<strong>\u201d Live \u00e0 Alger \u201c<\/strong>\u00a0recorded at the Bledstock festival, then the albums\u00a0<strong>\u201d El Bandi \u201c<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>\u201d Gourbi Rock \u201c<\/strong>\u00a0which were a great success in Algeria. These first records mark by the originality of a new style, mixing blues, rock and local music (gnawi, chaabi, kabyle, etc.) in a tonic and humorous synthesis.<\/p>\n<p>In 2007, the L\u2019Usine adventure comes to an end and Sidi Bemol devotes himself fully to\u00a0<strong>CSB Productions<\/strong>, a label he created to be free to produce his own music and that of his friends (today this label gathers about ten artists).<\/p>\n<p>A new period begins, one of experimentation in all directions. With the complicity of the Kabyle poet\u00a0<strong>Ameziane Kezzar,<\/strong>\u00a0Hocine Boukella revisits sailor songs gleaned<\/p>\n<p>from the four corners of the globe to adapt them into Kabyle. Two albums are published,<strong>\u00a0\u201cIzlan Ibahriyen vol. I and II<\/strong>\u00a0(Chants Marins Kabyles, 1 and 2)\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In 2010, he returns to the land of Celtic music which he had already explored with Thalweg ten years earlier and which he joyfully mixes with Kabyle, cha\u00e2bis and chaouis tunes in an album paying tribute to the three cities that have nourished him culturally:\u00a0<strong>\u201cParis Alger Bouzegu\u00e8ne\u201d,<\/strong>\u00a0the third being the city of origin of his parents.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, he brings together young jazzmen freshly graduated from the CMDL with gypsy musicians from Radjasthan to<\/p>\n<p>record the album\u00a0<strong>\u201cAfya\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19094 size-full alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/jazairhope.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/telechargement-48.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"297\" height=\"170\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, he creates at the Antoine Vitez Theatre, a musical tale entitled<strong>\u00a0\u201cL\u2019Odyss\u00e9e de Fulay\u201d<\/strong>, a show halfway between theatre and concert, directed by\u00a0<strong>Ken Higelin.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hocine Boukella has never stopped his work as a draftsman.
