{"id":19477,"date":"2021-06-07T01:55:26","date_gmt":"2021-06-07T06:55:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jazairhope.org\/?p=19477"},"modified":"2021-06-07T01:59:04","modified_gmt":"2021-06-07T06:59:04","slug":"on-june-7th-1962-the-criminal-fire-at-the-central-faculty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jazairhope.org\/en\/on-june-7th-1962-the-criminal-fire-at-the-central-faculty\/","title":{"rendered":"ON JUNE 7TH, 1962, THE CRIMINAL FIRE AT THE  &#8220;CENTRAL FACULTY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE CRIMINAL FIRE AT THE BU OF BENYOUCEF BENKHEDDA-ALGER UNIVERSITY &#8211; COMMONLY CALLED &#8220;CENTRAL FACULTY<\/p>\n<p>On June 7, 1962, when three phosphorus bombs, placed by the terrorists of the OAS in the building housing the University library &#8220;BU&#8221; of the faculty of Algiers, explode, and destroy a documentary fund of half a million d &#8216;works.<\/p>\n<p>The BU was one of the oldest and richest libraries in the Arab world and in Africa, &#8220;with nearly 600,000 scientific works and unpublished manuscripts in Arabic and Latin.<\/p>\n<p>According to some sources of information only 80,000 books were saved in the fire and were transferred to the Lyc\u00e9e Okba in Algiers. They were recovered by the \u2018\u2018 BU &#8221; two years later<\/p>\n<p>The BU arson was the work of the Secret Army Organization (OAS), it is a crime against humanity.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The criminal act aimed to destroy an inestimable cultural and scientific wealth, with the sole aim of depriving future generations of post-independence Algerians of access to knowledge and knowledge.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What is heartbreaking is that in the 1990s, the UN organization UNESCO compiled a list of valuable book libraries, which had been destroyed throughout history, including during the colonial period.
