President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, gave a press interview to the Qatari channel \u201cAl-Jazeera\u201d, broadcast on Tuesday, during which he tackled a number of core national and regional issues, such as the Libyan file, as well as a number of Arab files, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue, according to a summary published on the presidency\u2019s Facebook page.<\/p>\n
With regard to internal affairs, the President of the Republic said that \u201cthe genuine blessed Hirak movement saved the Algerian state from degenerating and Algeria was under the control of a gang,\u201d adding that \u201cthis gang stole hundreds of billions of dollars and transferred them abroad,\u201d and \u201cwanted to exploit the former president\u2019s illness to seize power for another five years.\u201d<\/p>\n
He deemed, in the same context, that \u201cthe extent of corruption in the previous era was huge and we are still discovering its visible and invisible extensions to date,\u201d noting that \u201conly 50 people monopolized imports in the past era and they had the absolute power and decision in choosing who is entitled to invest in Algeria.\u201d \u201c.<\/p>\n
He affirmed that \u201cjustice seized and recovered all the apparent properties of the gang and returned them to the state treasury,\u201d and Algeria is working \u2013 as he said \u2013 with friendly countries in Europe and the world to discover and recover the looted funds.<\/p>\n
The president added that \u201c13 million Algerians saved Algeria from the fifth term and the extension of the fourth,\u201d and thanks to \u201cthe awareness of the people, Algeria has passed the stage of danger,\u201d recalling that Algeria witnessed the first Arab Spring after the events of October 1988.<\/p>\n
On the political matter, Mr. Tebboune stressed that \u201cAlgeria got rid of ideological Islam forever\u201d and that \u201cthe active\u00a0 \u00a0Islamic current in Algeria is different from the rest of the Islamic movements in other countries.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, he considered that \u201cthe genuine Hirak movement won thanks to its peaceful character under the protection of the security services and the army\u201d and that \u201cthe recent marches are anonymous and not united ideologically, neither in demands nor in slogans, and count hundreds of people\u201d only, as \u201cfifty Algerian provinces have not witnessed any marches in the recent period.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pt. Tebboune pointed out that \u201cthe relationship between the presidency and the army is normal,\u201d stressing that \u201cthe Algerian army is a constitutional institution that enshrines the state\u2019s constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n
As for the Palestinian issue, President Tebboune said that Algeria\u2019s position is constant and does not change with time or failure,\u201d noting that there is an agreement as part of the Arab League regarding land for peace, which means the establishment of the State of Palestine and then comes peace, but unfortunately today there is neither peace nor land, which calls into question the purpose of normalization.<\/p>\n
He added, in the same context, , \u201cAlgeria carries the torch of Palestine, Western Sahara and the oppressed peoples,\u201d and therefore we want to silence its voice, \u201cbut this will not happen.\u201d<\/p>\n
He considered, in this regard, that \u201cstability continues in Algeria, thanks to the strength of its army,\u201d and that \u201cwhoever said that Algeria will fall after Syria was mistaken.\u201d<\/p>\n
Regarding relations with neighboring Morocco, Mr. Tebboune said: \u201cWe don\u2019t have problems with Morocco, but it\u2019s Morocco which has problems with us,\u201d recalling that \u201cthe issue of Western Sahara has been in the hands of the UN Committee for Decolonization for four decades\u201d and that the United Nations considers that Western Sahara is a Colony.<\/p>\n
He stated, in this respect, that \u201cour relations were once good with Morocco and the borders were open despite the Western Sahara file,\u201d reiterating Algeria\u2019s firm and unwavering position regarding Western Sahara, \u201cand we do not accept the fait accompli, regardless the circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n
As for the Libyan crisis, the President of the Republic stated that Algeria refused to let Tripoli fall \u201cin the hands of mercenaries,\u201d and that it \u201cwas ready to intervene in one way or another to prevent its fall.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we said that Tripoli is a red line \u2013 said Mr. Tebboune \u2013 we meant very well what we said and the message reached all those concerned\u201d recalling Algeria\u2019s position at the Berlin conference to hold general elections in Libya under the supervision of the United Nations.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that the Libyan brothers \u201crequested that the Libyan reconciliation takes place in Algeria, and this was confirmed by the Prime Minister of the Libyan National Unity Government during his recent visit to Algeria.\u201d<\/p>\n
He deemed that the lack of stability in Libya had repercussions on the situation in Mali and the Shale countries, where, as he added, \u201cconvoys loaded with heavy and light weapons were spotted by satellites heading to the Sahel region and were not prevented or stopped.\u201d<\/p>\n
The president believes that \u201csuch behavior aims to encircle Algeria to facilitate its penetration, and for this reason we seek to further strengthen our army,\u201d noting that the army\u2019s recent military maneuvers came \u201cto ensure its readiness for any emergency.\u201d<\/p>\n
With regard to relations with France, the President of the Republic said that there are \u201cthree lobbies in France that do not agree with one another, the first is made up of settlers who left Algeria after independence and inherited their hatred to their grandchildren, the second is an extension of the French secret army, and the third is made up of Algerians who chose to take France\u2019s side.\u201d<\/p>\n
As for editorial of the French daily \u201cLe Monde\u201d dedicated to Algeria, he said that the Algeria that this newspaper talked about \u201cis not the Algeria we know.\u201d\u00a0 Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune said that the proverb which says, \u201cBe generous to a mean person and he\u2019s rebel on you\u201d applies to it, explaining \u201cLe Monde\u2019s daily was banned in Algeria, and since the departure of its founder, Hubert Beuve-M\u00e9ry, it has completely deviated.\u201d He indicated in this regard that he was the one who returned this newspaper to Algeria,\u201d but it \u201cbit the hand that reached out to it, by spreading lies, because Algeria is not the one that Le Monde daily talks about.\u201d<\/p>\n
Regarding the situation in Mali, the President of the Republic said that \u201csince Algeria\u2019s independence in 1962, we have taken care of Mali\u2019s problems, as neighbors and brothers as the country hosts half Malian and half Algerian tribes and witnesses the serious north and south problem adding that \u201c we have always been assisting in good faith and never demanded anything in return.\u201d<\/p>\n
He went on to say, \u201cIt seems that Mali is within the cordon of Algeria. Mali and the Sahel region in general have been destabilized after what happened in Libya, and there are long and wide convoys carrying heavy and light weapons heading towards the Sahel, representing gangs that were spotted by satellite, but no one stopped them,\u201d which means \u201d The encirclement of Algeria (\u2026) but our blessed army is strong, and is getting stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n
