She was awarded the prize for her groundbreaking research on the importance of microscopic bacteria for the immune system, as well as the role of gut microscopic tissue in the creation of microflora and its effects on infectious and inflammatory diseases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYasmin Belkaid\u2019s research has shown conclusively how the bacteria that colonize our intestines and skin control our gut bacteria and our immune system and thus help us fight off infectious agents as well as accept food as a defensive agents.\u201d added the same Institute.<\/p>\n<p>Yasmine Belkaid, Algerian researcher, born in 1968 in Algiers. The researcher also obtained a master\u2019s degree at the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene, before continuing her postgraduate studies in France.<\/p>\n<p>She worked as a researcher at the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. She also supervised the Microelement programme and is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>The Robert Koch Foundation, established in 1907, is a non-profit organisation. The Foundation aims to promote medical development and basic scientific research in the field of infectious diseases.
