They [the gallery] made the point even clearer.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p>&#8216;What is the point of being a thief and so proud of your act! This will never change anything &#8211; all these artists, including myself, are against showing in Israel&#8217; &#8211;\u00a0<em>Wael Shawky, Egyptian artist<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Shawky added that he had raised the issue with his agents &#8211; the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lissongallery.com\/artists\/wael-shawky\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lisson Gallery<\/a>\u00a0in London and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.serpentinegalleries.org\/exhibitions-events\/wael-shawky\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sfeir-Semler Gallery<\/a>\u00a0in Beirut &#8211; to look into the possibility\u00a0of taking the Israeli\u00a0gallery to court. The Lisson Gallery did not confirm to MEE whether legal action would be taken.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moma.org\/calendar\/exhibitions\/1493\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Walid Raad<\/a>, a Lebanese artist whose work was also identified as being shown in the exhibition, did not respond to request for comment by publication time.<\/p>\n<p>Omer Krieger, the artistic director of the gallery, told Hebrew site\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.calcalist.co.il\/consumer\/articles\/0,7340,L-3742155,00.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Calcalist<\/a>\u00a0that he had sent the artists emails asking them to show their works in Tel Aviv, but that they either refused or did not engage with him at all.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This time, it was a conscious choice for unilateral engagement. There was no attempt at coexistence or normalisation [in the show],&#8221; Krieger told Calcalist.<\/p>\n<p>The gallery&#8217;s statement said that the exhibition sought &#8220;to promote a shared reality marked by open dialogue and exchange throughout the Middle East, without wars, occupation, or any borders&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>All that through the &#8220;Stolen Arab Art&#8221;.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mee-readmore mee-readmore-article-opinion mee-readmore-type-text align-right\">\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"mee-readmore-description\">I call upon Ireland to vote for justice and ban Israeli settlements goods from its markets<\/div>\n<div class=\"mee-readmore-description\"><span style=\"background-color: #ffffff; font-size: 15px; text-transform: initial;\">Fr. Manuel Musallam<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"mee-readmore-description\"><a class=\"mee-readmore-link\" style=\"background-color: #ffffff; font-size: 15px; text-transform: initial;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.middleeasteye.net\/opinion\/i-call-upon-ireland-vote-justice-and-ban-israeli-settlements-goods-its-markets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read More \u00bb<\/a><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>The gallery said that it decided not to publish the artists\u2019 names based on &#8220;the assumption that they [the artists] would not want for their work to be shown in Israel, as part of the Arab and international cultural boycott of Israel&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), a part of the broader Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, has played a prominent role in raising international awareness of Israeli crimes against Palestinians.<\/p>\n<p>Palestinians have accused Israel of appropriating their culture, whether through culinary staples such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/blogs\/ali-abunimah\/hummus-and-falafel-are-already-israeli-now-theyre-coming-palestines-olive-oil-too\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">falafel, hummus and olive oil<\/a>, or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yumpu.com\/en\/document\/view\/5740326\/theft-of-the-nakba-narrative-left-curve\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">traditional clothing<\/a>\u00a0&#8211;
