ALGIERS- The Special Envoy in charge of the issue of Western Sahara and the Maghreb countries, Amar Belani, denounced on Monday the “irresponsible behavior” of Moroccan diplomacy after the blocking of a statement by the Arab Group at the UN aimed at condemning the serious violations by the forces of the Zionist occupier of the sacredness of the holy places in Al-Quds.<\/p>\n
“Once again, the irresponsible behavior of Moroccan diplomacy, through the misguided activism of its inarguable permanent representative in New York, has just thrown a harsh light on the deplorable opportunism of the Moroccan authorities who have secured a life annuity on the Palestinian issue, in particular the virtual chairmanship of the Al-Quds Committee, from which they derive undeserved dividends, politically and diplomatically, and this on the backs of the Palestinian people martyred by occupation and repression,” said Mr. Belani in a statement to the APS.<\/p>\n
The reaction of the Special Envoy to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community abroad comes after the blocking by the permanent representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the UN of the statement initiated within the framework of the group of Arab ambassadors to condemn the serious violations by the Zionist occupation forces of the sacredness of the holy places in Al-Quds and the savage repression that fell on innocent faithful.<\/p>\n

According To Mr. Belani, “the hollow presidency of the Al-Quds Committee, whose last meeting dates back to the year 2014, completely and voluntarily stifled this body supposed to watch over and protect the Muslim holy sites of the city, thus demonstrating that the instrumentalization of this body pursued other objectives, in particular the fact of sparing itself, on the regional scene, a capacity to maneuver and influence in order to preserve good relations with the Zionist entity and to legitimize a unilateral religious status in order not to be overwhelmed by Islamist currents on the domestic scene”.<\/p>\n
“While the surge of violence is savagely falling on innocent Palestinians on the esplanade of mosques, the unworthy contortions of Moroccan diplomacy in New York have just offered the international community the lamentable spectacle of a country whose normalization with Israel has made the Palestinian issue a red line not to be crossed, to the point of blocking a compromise text accepted by all Arab ambassadors,” he added.<\/p>\n
“Angered by the rupture of the laudatory elements of language to which it was unjustly accustomed, Moroccan diplomacy has understood that the time for unjustified tributes and unglamorous business is now over in the face of the untold suffering of the Palestinian people,” concludes Mr. Belani.<\/p>\n
