Algeria, a member of the\u00a0Gas Exporting Countries Forum<\/a>\u00a0(GECF), is set to host the headquarters of the organization\u2019s Gas Research Institute (GRI) following the signing of an agreement between the Government and the GECF.\u00a0The technology center will enable GECF members to cooperate on research and development regarding innovative gas technology breakthroughs to enhance the industry. Algeria will host various initiatives including scientific research, technology transfer and sharing of best practices among GECF members and global partners to optimize operations across the entire gas value chain.<\/p>\n

GECF Secretary General, HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, <\/span>stated<\/a> that \u201cGRI will progressively be a platform for cooperation on technology and a vehicle to develop partnerships with research centers and universities of member countries and other similar institutions from around the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The decision for Algeria to host the GRI follows the country\u2019s <\/span>gas exports<\/a>\u00a0reaching a new peak of 56 billion cubic meters in 2022 as both production and demand soared owing to the Russian-Ukraine war, energy transition-related policies and increases in economic activity post COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n

Algeria has also kickstarted a number of measures \u2013 including signing a number of memoranda of understandings to maximize exploration, production and the monetization of gas with Italian major, Eni, as well as with the Algerian government for the <\/span>Maghreb-Europe Gas Pipeline<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 to enhance its capabilities within the gas industry.<\/span><\/p>\n
