Nearly 3,139 plant species have been identified. The Algerian fauna includes 107 wild mammals, 336 species of birds and 20,000 species of insects. In the aquatic environment, 784 plant species are counted.<\/p>\n<p>But, for its part, the pollution of the atmosphere by lead, or the tearing of the ozone layer caused by CFCs, is constantly progressing. This is what makes these environmental activists say that in Algeria, biodiversity is, today, seriously threatened.
