ALG-JNB has set a new record, becoming the carrier&#8217;s longest flight (4,619 mi) between two African points. The flight became even longer as Air Alg\u00e9rie had to reroute via West Africa, avoiding Nigerian airspace.<\/p>\n<section class=\"emaki-custom-block emaki-custom-tip\">\n<div id=\"custom_block_3\" class=\"emaki-custom tip\">\n<div class=\"custom_block-content\">\n<h2 id=\"first-time-in-johannesburg\">First time in Johannesburg<\/h2>\n<p>Air Alg\u00e9rie landed in Johannesburg for the first time, where it was greeted with a water cannon salute and a special welcoming ceremony attended by various stakeholders from both nations. Algeria&#8217;s flag carrier will return to Johannesburg with the A330 on September 21, when it begins its non-stop commercial service. ALG-JNB flights will be operated twice a week on Sundays and Thursdays.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-odd\"><\/div>\n<h2 id=\"an-important-connection\">An important connection<\/h2>\n<p>The North African airline was initially scheduled to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/simpleflying.com\/air-algerie-airbus-a330-johannesburg\/\">commence its Algiers-Johannesburg flights on March 26<\/a>\u00a0with the same schedule, but the service was delayed until September.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the Monday flight, Algeria&#8217;s Minister of Transport Youcef Cherfa and Air Alg\u00e9rie Director General Yacine Benslimane chaired an inauguration ceremony at Houari Boumediene Airport. ALG will become an important transit point for southern African passengers looking to connect to Asia, Europe, or South America. ALG will offer connections to destinations like Paris Orly (ORY), Rome (FCO), and Barcelona (BCN), which are not available directly from Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"more-sub-saharan-connections\">More sub-Saharan connections<\/h2>\n<p>At the inauguration ceremony, Youcef Cherfa recalled the country&#8217;s recently added connections to Abidjan, Bamako, Dakar, and Ouagadougou, which have become essential destinations for the national carrier.
