One of the last figures of the national liberation war is leaving us. Yacef Saâdi, a great Moudjahid died today, September 10, 2021, leaving Algeria orphaned by a part of its history. Yacef Saâdi leaves, but he leaves behind him a reputation as an elusive warrior, and an outstanding strategist.
Yacef Saâdi died today, around 8 p.m., at the age of 93, after a life full of twists and turns, and especially after having lived very closely the war of liberation and the joy of independence. Yacef Saâdi then disappeared from radar. However, and like all Algerians, he experienced the horrors of the black decade, and he had lived with his country all the joys and sorrows.
A great man goes away
Yacef Saadi was born on January 20, 1928 in the Kasbah of Algiers. He is a writer, filmmaker, senator at the Council of the Nation, but he is notably known for being a veteran within the FLN, of which he was the head of the autonomous zone of Algiers during the Battle of Algiers in 1957, during the war of the Algerian revolution.
Yacef Saadi, along with Zohra Drif, were arrested by French paratroopers in a building of the Kasbah during the Battle of Algiers. His arrest marked a military victory for the French, but it sealed forever the link between the FLN at the time and the Algerian people.
