Il est des titres qui en disent long sur l\u2019auteur, et d\u2019autres qui en disent plus encore sur une \u00e9poque. “Ces Palestiniens qui viennent nous d\u00e9ranger !” n\u2019est pas un cri du c\u0153ur, mais un soupir d\u2019agacement bourgeois, un murmure ennuy\u00e9 devant l\u2019obstination des damn\u00e9s de la terre \u00e0 vouloir survivre.<\/p>\n

Kamel Daoud, dans sa derni\u00e8re chronique, s\u2019interroge : pourquoi ces Palestiniens ne se contentent-ils pas de mourir en silence ? Pourquoi viennent-ils troubler nos certitudes, nos conforts moraux, nos indignations calibr\u00e9es ? Il faudrait \u00eatre bien aveugle pour ne pas voir que la seule chose que les Palestiniens viennent d\u00e9ranger, ce n\u2019est ni la gauche occidentale ni les progressistes arabes, mais la conscience endormie de ceux qui ont troqu\u00e9 la solidarit\u00e9 contre l\u2019analyse, et la r\u00e9volte contre la pose.<\/p>\n

Comparer la marche d\u2019un peuple d\u00e9poss\u00e9d\u00e9 \u00e0 celle d\u2019ouvriers devant une usine en faillite rel\u00e8ve d\u2019une trivialisation gla\u00e7ante. Car ici, il ne s\u2019agit pas de salaires, mais de cadavres. Pas d\u2019acquis sociaux, mais d\u2019enfants \u00e0 la peau fondue par le phosphore blanc. Et lorsque l\u2019auteur \u00e9voque la fa\u00e7on dont le corps du Palestinien est brandi comme “crime contre l\u2019humanit\u00e9”, il omet que ce corps n\u2019est pas un symbole \u2013 il est le sympt\u00f4me. Le sympt\u00f4me d\u2019une humanit\u00e9 qui accepte que certains meurent avec fracas pendant que d\u2019autres vivent en silence.<\/p>\n

Daoud regrette que le Palestinien ne soit pas visible autrement que mort. Mais n\u2019est-ce pas justement parce que la parole de ce Palestinien vivant est constamment refus\u00e9e, d\u00e9l\u00e9gitim\u00e9e, soup\u00e7onn\u00e9e ? Parce que son “non” au Hamas, lorsqu\u2019il existe, est noy\u00e9 dans un “non” plus vaste encore \u00e0 l\u2019occupation, \u00e0 l\u2019apartheid, au d\u00e9placement de population et \u00e0 l\u2019effacement m\u00e9thodique d\u2019un peuple.<\/p>\n

L\u2019Alg\u00e9rie n\u2019a pas le droit moral de se taire quand Gaza br\u00fble. Notre histoire est faite de maquis, de rafles, de d\u00e9ni de notre identit\u00e9. Nous savons, mieux que quiconque, ce qu\u2019implique vivre sous un pouvoir qui nie jusqu\u2019\u00e0 notre existence. Comparer le Hamas \u00e0 l\u2019oppression isra\u00e9lienne, ou croire que le peuple palestinien est prisonnier d\u2019une cause qu\u2019il ne comprend pas, c\u2019est faire preuve d\u2019une condescendance que n\u2019aurait pas tol\u00e9r\u00e9e un seul de nos martyrs.<\/p>\n

Daoud voudrait que le Palestinien s\u2019explique, s\u2019excuse, se justifie. Pourquoi manifeste-t-il ? Pourquoi ne choisit-il pas le silence ? Mais qui, parmi nous, aurait accept\u00e9 d\u2019entendre cela pendant notre lutte ? Qui aurait os\u00e9 demander \u00e0 Didouche, \u00e0 Larbi Ben M’hidi, s’ils ne pouvaient pas protester avec moins de bruit ?<\/p>\n

Dans sa prose, raffin\u00e9e mais d\u00e9sincarn\u00e9e, l\u2019auteur semble regretter que le Palestinien ne se laisse pas d\u00e9finir par d\u2019autres. Or c\u2019est l\u00e0 l\u2019essence m\u00eame de la dignit\u00e9 : exister au-del\u00e0 des r\u00e9cits que les autres voudraient \u00e9crire \u00e0 notre place.<\/p>\n

Non, monsieur Daoud. Le Palestinien ne vient pas nous d\u00e9ranger. Il vient nous rappeler. Nous rappeler que l\u2019ind\u00e9pendance ne fut pas une fin, mais un point de d\u00e9part. Qu\u2019elle oblige. Qu\u2019elle engage. Et que se dire libre dans un monde o\u00f9 l\u2019on tol\u00e8re l\u2019injustice, c\u2019est se condamner \u00e0 l\u2019hypocrisie.<\/p>\n

Il n\u2019y a pas de juste milieu entre l\u2019occupant et l\u2019occup\u00e9, entre la bombe et le berceau, entre l\u2019\u00e9crivain et le souffle coup\u00e9 d\u2019un enfant. L\u2019Alg\u00e9rie authentique, celle de Novembre, ne serait pas indiff\u00e9rente. Elle se tiendrait debout. Elle tendrait la main.
