Des chercheurs du Centre national de recherche en arch\u00e9ologie (Cnra) ont d\u00e9couvert un cimeti\u00e8re romain datant du IV\u00e8me si\u00e8cle dans le centre de la commune de Hammam Debagh (wilaya de Guelma), a fait savoir, samedi, la direction locale de la culture et des arts.<\/p>\n

Le site o\u00f9 a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couvert le cimeti\u00e8re devait accueillir un centre de repos de la Protection civile, a indiqu\u00e9 le directeur local de la culture et des arts, Boudjema\u00e2 Benamirouche, pr\u00e9cisant que lors du lancement des travaux, des pi\u00e8ces arch\u00e9ologiques ont \u00e9t\u00e9 exhum\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

La direction de la culture, qui a pris les mesures administratives qui s’imposent, dont la suspension des travaux, a saisi le minist\u00e8re de tutelle qui a rapidement d\u00e9p\u00each\u00e9 une commission scientifique compos\u00e9e de chercheurs du Cnra pour proc\u00e9der aux fouilles de sauvetage, toujours en cours, a-t-il ajout\u00e9.<\/p>\n

De son c\u00f4t\u00e9, Ouafia Adel, chercheuse et membre de l’\u00e9quipe du Cnra, a expliqu\u00e9 qu’une semaine apr\u00e8s le lancement des fouilles, les chercheurs ont d\u00e9couvert un cimeti\u00e8re remontant au r\u00e8gne de l’empereur romain Honorius (IV\u00e8me si\u00e8cle), affirmant que cette d\u00e9couverte met en lumi\u00e8re un pan important de l’histoire de cette r\u00e9gion. Elle a,en outre, soulign\u00e9 que les d\u00e9couvertes faites jusqu’\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent repr\u00e9sentent des tombes de plusieurs types, dont certaines sous tuiles, d’autres sous des jarres ou encore creus\u00e9es dans la roche, ajoutant que \u00abla fouille de sauvetage se poursuit et les chercheurs d\u00e9ploient des efforts pour sauver tout ce qui peut l’\u00eatre\u00bb.<\/p>\n

\nSelon la sp\u00e9cialiste, ce site arch\u00e9ologique pourrait \u00eatre ouvert aux touristes surtout qu’il se trouve \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 des stations thermales et de la cascade naturelle au centre du chef-lieu de la commune de Hammam Debagh, situ\u00e9e \u00e0 22 km \u00e0 l’ouest de la ville de Guelma et qui accueille, annuellement, des milliers de visiteurs de l’int\u00e9rieur et de l’ext\u00e9rieur du pays.<\/h3>\n
